The owners requested a cabaña in a style in keeping with their main house but subservient to it. Thus the exterior forms and materials used are all matched to the house but fewer materials are used, the roof pitch is a little lower, and the detailing is simplified. The cabaña is more informal, and connects to the landscape in a more intimate manner.

Two sets of doors join the interior to the exterior. French doors open to views of the pool. The other doors, a 16-ft-wide set of gliding doors, open onto a trellised patio, a shady retreat for viewing poolside activities. A changing room/restroom is tucked out of view to the east side and features an outdoor shower. Inside, a small kitchen allows for preparation of drinks and snacks. A high gable-end window on the south side frames a view of the Sierra Azul mountains in the distance.
